ATM Fraud - Ghost Terminals

As new attempts are made to perpetuate ATM fraud, new terminology is being created. Ghost Terminals, the newest form of fraud, have been detected in southern Michigan. A ghost terminal refers to a device that criminals attach to the front of an ATM to capture information from a card (also referred to as skimming). A counterfeit plastic card is then manufactured and withdrawals can be made from your account by using these cards.

Your best defense is to check the ATM to see if it has been modified in any way. If you suspect that a device has been placed on the ATM, notify the financial institution that owns the ATM immediately. Do not place your card in any device that may capture your card information or in any ATM that appears to be altered.
