RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is used in a variety of contactless cards. These cards transmit information wirelessly to communicate information between a RFID card and a RFID reader. Since its inception, there have been concerns that the information communicated could be intercepted, or skimmed, and lead to identity theft. To combat this, many individuals have resorted to keeping cards in sleeves that block RFID frequencies. DCECU debit, ATM and credit cards are not contactless so there is no information being transmitted wirelessly. This means DCECU cards are currently not at risk from RFID skimmers.
