Pantry donation blitz February 04, 2021
It’s that time of year – the time when we’d typically be hosting our annual pantry restock drive to collect food, personal care items, paper products, gift cards, cash donations and other items to benefit local organizations that care for community members in need.
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to pause this DCECU tradition for 2021, but it was important to us find another way to support our friends and neighbors throughout the region at a time when we know the need for assistance is high, both nationally and locally.
Instead of collecting donations in our lobby, we are doing a “donation blitz” around the region – purchasing items to contribute to four local organizations to help them meet the needs of the communities they serve.
The organizations receiving our donations are:
- Ecumenical Food Pantry at First Presbyterian Church, Saginaw – receiving food and personal care items
- Gladwin County Baby Pantry, Beaverton – receiving baby care supplies
- Midland’s Open Door – receiving items from their Amazon Wish List
- Safe Harbor Kitchen, Bay City – receiving food and personal care items
If you wish to join us in this season of giving by making a contribution in place of the donations you’d typically have been dropping off in our lobby, please click the links in the bullet points above to visit the organizations’ websites and learn more.
Please know that we have every intention of resuming the pantry restock drive in 2022! It’s one of our favorite community activities, and based on the incredible generosity of our members, our employees and the community at large during those weeks of giving, we know we are not alone in looking forward to it each year.
