Congratulations, Mid-Michigan Chapter of Credit Unions!

DCECU is proud to celebrate the Mid-Michigan Chapter of Credit Unions’ recent victory in the 2020 Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Awards!

The chapter, whose membership consists of 21 credit unions from around the Great Lakes Bay Region – including DCECU – was a first-place winner of CUNA’s Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award in recognition of the chapter’s efforts to financially assist individuals and families who were impacted by the catastrophic May 2020 flooding throughout the area.

Almost immediately after the flooding occurred, the chapter formed a Flood Relief Task Force – which included DCECU Director of Compliance and Risk Management Lisa Gray – that worked in collaboration with the Michigan Credit Union Foundation and the Michigan Credit Union League to raise funds in hopes of providing flood damage recovery grants to members of the chapter’s credit unions.

In all, more than $160,000 was raised, allowing 325 Flood Relief Grants of $500 each to be distributed via an online application process, with prompt disbursement of the funds into the grant recipients’ accounts.

According to CUNA, the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award – named in honor of a “community activist who committed her life to credit union development, to her community, and to serving the underserved” – was created “to encourage and honor credit union and chapter involvement in community projects and activities.” For 2020, the Mid-Michigan Chapter of Credit Unions and four individual credit unions from around the country were named first-place winners of the award.

DCECU is honored to be a part of the chapter and grateful that more than 90 of our member households benefited from the award-winning Flood Relief Grants.
